Innovative, affidabili ed
eleganti, le Hudson hanno contribuito all’evoluzione dell’auto made in USA dal 1909 al 1957, anno in
cui la Hudson Motor Company cessò la produzione. La vettura qui esposta fu
realizzata nel secondo dopoguerra quando, finite le restrizioni imposte dal
conflitto mondiale, la Hudson riavviò le catene di montaggio (il 30 agosto 1945).
Se i modelli usciti nel 1946-47 differivano di poco rispetto alle vetture
d’anteguerra, fu nel 1948 - in anticipo di almeno un anno rispetto ai grandi
costruttori di Detroit – che la Hudson debuttò con una serie di vetture del
tutto inedite e contraddistinte da un design moderno e innovativo, da
annoverare senza dubbio tra i migliori del periodo post bellico. Queste vetture
erano note per lo “Step Down Design”: si doveva scendere in auto, anziché
salire, e il posizionamento delle masse verso il basso garantiva un centro di
gravità più vicino al terreno, con grandi vantaggi in termini di confort e
tenuta di strada. La vettura qui esposta è stata acquistata negli anni '60 da
un noto collezionista dell'area milanese, presso il garage del Principe Ranieri
di Monaco. Con tutta probabilità essa veniva usata da personaggi dell'entourage
del Principe.

Innovative, reliable and elegant, the models
produced by the Hudson Motor Company contributed to the evolution of
American-made cars from 1909 to 1957, when the company ceased production. The
car displayed here was built in the post-war years, when, the restrictions
imposed by World War II having come to an end, the Hudson company got its
assembly lines rolling again (on 30 August 1945). While the models launched in
1946-47 differed little from the pre-war models, in 1948 – at least a year
before the great Detroit car makers – the Hudson company unveiled a number of
totally unprecedented cars, characterised by their modern, highly innovative
design, undoubtedly among the best of the post-war period. These models were
known for their “Step Down Design”: you had to step down, instead of up, to get
into the car, and the low position of the weights resulted in a centre of
gravity closer to the ground, with significant benefits in terms of comfort and
road holding. The car that we see here was bought in the 1960s from a
well-known collector in the Milan area. It came from the garage of Prince Ranieri
of Monaco and in all likelihood it had been used by people from the entourage
of the Prince.
